Socks - Ask Run Guy

Selecting Running Socks

Choosing running socks is simpler than choosing running shoes, but is still important.

Things to look for in running socks:

  • Cushion and comfort
  • Thinness of fabric which prevents bunching and blistering, but that does not wear out easily
  • Fabric that is flexible and “breathes” and does not trap moisture

Socks that I have worn for recreational and distance running and training include:

  • Thorlo
  • Swiftwick
  • Asics

Helpful Tip

Regardless of type of socks worn when running, I’ve found it helpful to lubricate (with Vaseline or something similar) all over and between toes before a long run, to reduce the occurrence of toe blisters.
