Helping Others Run

Some communities have organizations that help facilitate running for less fortunate people. Many shoe and running stores promote donation of gently used shoes and other run gear for those in need.

An example in the Minneapolis community is Mile in My Shoes which brings together local residents from diverse backgrounds. Their vision is to, “build bonds, boost wellness, and spark social action by bringing the power of running to people experiencing homelessness and other barriers.”

At the national level, there are many charities that provide youth, homeless, veterans and others with the gift of running. Not only do these organizations accept financial donations, but they are also looking for volunteers willing to give of their time.  Check out this article describing 5 Charities that Give the Gift of Running.
