Selecting Running Shoes
The best method for choosing running shoes (especially for beginning runners) is to visit a local running shoe store, and to talk to employees in the store, who likely will be shoe experts:
- discussing your running experience, goals, training plans,
- viewing your running style: pronation, foot strike (heel vs. mid-foot)
- trying on various shoes for fit and conduct test runs with the shoes in the store.
I alternate between a pair of Asics and Hoka during marathon training.
Shoe Reviews
Another useful method for choosing running shoes is to review shoe guides such as this one in Runner’s World to learn about reviews of various shoes and discern which brand and type of shoes may work best for you.
