Run for a Cause

It is very common and popular to run as a way and mode to raise money for charitable causes.  Examples include raising money via races where proceeds go to groups such as cancer survivors and patients, children and adults with disabilities, diseases, etc. 

Running to raise money for a charity to gain entry into a race is also very popular. For example, for races that are difficult to gain entry, getting a charity bib and raising money for the charity and getting to race in the challenging-entry race is a win-win and is a very rewarding experience.  Virtually all the world major marathons and many other long-distance running events have a charity fund-raising component to them.
